Three Rivers Junior Rowing (TRJR) promotes the sport of rowing at the junior level throughout Allegheny County. Three Rivers Rowing provides coaching, equipment, administration and helps to establish parent participation. They encourage any 4th-12th grade athlete – no matter their current athletic ability or experience – to partake in the sport of rowing. Three Rivers takes a great amount of pride in developing athletes through their entire rowing career. We interviewed Matt Grau, Head Coach of Junior Rowing at Three Rivers Rowing Association. Here’s Matt Grau, in his own words:
“We have 70 athletes in our 8th-12th grade program, 30 athletes in our 4th – 7th grade program, and have over 100 young people participate in our summer camps. I was previously the Head Coach and a Social Studies Teacher at Woodrow Wilson HS in Washington, DC and was named the 2016 Washington Post Coach of the Year for Boys Rowing during my time there. I’ve spent 7 summers with the U.S. Junior National team, including two as a High Performance Camp Coach and four as the Boys Sculling Coach for the CanAmMex Regatta against Canada and Mexico. I’ve also coached at Steel City Rowing Club, and rowed and received my bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Pittsburgh.”
