FitLabPGH Features- Maverick, Schutzhund Trained German Shepard

FitLabPGH is a podcast about movement and movement opportunities in the Pittsburgh, PA area.  Once a week we also highlight a FitLabPGH mover…someone who understands that movement is a lifestyle…not just an activity.  The questions are lightly edited to allow for easy readability.

This Week: Maverick, Schutzhund Trained German Shepard, trained by Drew Zihmer

Are you a Pittsburgh native? If not, what brought you to the Pittsburgh area?  I was born outside of Columbus and then brought to Pittsburgh when my fur-parents adopted me.

What are your three favorite movement activities in the Pittsburgh area?  Schutzhund, walks at South Park, and tracking on any farm field. As long as I’m with my fur-dad it’s a good place to be!

Describe your fantasy movement-focused vacation…cost is not an object…where do you go and what do you do?  Go to Michigan in the middle of winter to see my Schutzhund friends and play in the snow

What is your go-to weekday breakfast? Your weekend breakfast?  Fromm Gold Dog Food with my special EPI medicine. Weekends earning my breakfast (hot dogs) while tracking

What is your favorite thing to eat in Pittsburgh? Note: it does not need to be healthy.  An ice cream pup cup from Kelley’s Dari Delite in Bethel Park

What is the most unusual and/or challenging movement activity you’ve done? Would you do it again?  Carrying a dumbbell in my mouth as I jump over a 1-meter hurdle or carrying it as I climb over a 7’ wall. Yes! It’s fun!!

What movement activity/event are you looking forward to in the next year?  Competing for my IPO1 with my fur-dad

Would you rather go scuba diving or sky diving?  Sky diving! I just need a harness and to convince fur-dad to go with me

What is your favorite recovery or self-care practice?  Taking a nap on the sofa with a movie on with my favorite humans. And extra treats!
