FitLabPGH Features 47:19 Nicole Talak

FitLabPGH is a podcast about movement and movement opportunities in the Pittsburgh, PA area.  Once a week we also highlight a FitLabPGH mover…someone who understands that movement is a lifestyle…not just an activity.  The questions are lightly edited to allow for easy readability.  Click FitLabPGH Features for more info if you want to be featured/know someone who should be featured.

This Week: Nicole Talak

Are you a Pittsburgh native? If not, what brought you to the Pittsburgh area? Yup – born and bred in Bloomfield

What are your three favorite movement activities in the Pittsburgh area? Crossfit, trying new sports, bike riding

Describe your fantasy movement-focused vacation…cost is not an object…where do you go and what do you do? Bali – Wanderlust Bali (Crossfit gym), yoga, hiking, swimming

What is your go-to weekday breakfast? Your weekend breakfast? Trader Joe’s Everything Ciabatta Roll, Egg, Fat-Free Cheese, Bacon, and franks wing hot sauce sandwich. Coffee, definitely Coffee. Weekends I’ll add in a TJ’s waffle and sugar free jam if I’m working out early.

What is your favorite thing to eat in Pittsburgh? Note: it does not need to be healthy. Taco Diablo tacos and chips and spicy guac. Or Batter & Dough cupcakes. Really, this list could go on for a really long time. The pommes frites at Poulet Bleu too.

What is the most unusual and/or challenging movement activity you’ve done? Would you do it again? I really enjoy trying out new / different sports or activities so I put myself in that position a lot. Traditionally, in my training, I’m historically bad at cardio, and I recently ran a Spartan Sprint at PNC Park. Wouldn’t do it again, but it was definitely fun to try.

What movement activity/event are you looking forward to in the next year? Local Crossfit competition in December, trying to get a Gymnastics Certification in 2020.

Would you rather go scuba diving or skydiving? Scuba Diving, my body loves gravity too much.

What is your favorite recovery or self-care practice? Cycle with Chris Mayhew, Reading, Going to the Movies

What is the one place visitors to Pittsburgh “must” see? Phipps at Christmas.
