FitLabPGH Features 31:20 Special Feature: Maggie and Puddin

FitLabPGH is a podcast about movement and movement opportunities in the Pittsburgh, PA area.  Once a week we also highlight a FitLabPGH mover…someone who understands that movement is a lifestyle…not just an activity.  The questions are lightly edited to allow for easy readability.  Click FitLabPGH Features for more info if you want to be featured/know someone who should be featured.

This Week: Special Feature: the Labs of FitLabPGH, Maggie and Puddin

With many people working from home and/or practicing physical distancing, the dogs of FitLabPGH, Maggie and Puddin, wanted to offer their advice on how to cope and to make movement part of your current lifestyle.

What are your three favorite movement activities that don’t require a fitness facility? We NEVER go to a fitness facility. Are we missing out on something? We like to hike with our human staff in Mingo Creek Park. We enjoy exploring the new trails at FitLabPGH HQ; the teeter totter is pretty cool to. And we LOVE to wrestle…in the backyard…in the living room…at the top of the stairs…the humans object when we do this.

Any advice for humans who wish they could travel right now? Take a car ride to the park. We love to ride in the Jeep.

How about advice for humans who aren’t able to enjoy dining out in restaurants right now? Our staff members have our food delivered to the house…can’t the humans out there have their food delivered???

Any suggestions for humans who are bored at home? Puddin: Let me take this one, Maggie. When I’m bored, I chew things…kitchen mats, dog beds, blankets…I know this makes the humans mad, but it’s quite enjoyable.

Maggie: Don’t listen to the puppy. No need to destroy your home when you’re bored…just take a nap…or run circles around the yard. Our humans seem to enjoy reading books too.

What’s your advice to humans who miss their gyms and fitness facilities? See our answer above about favorite home movement activities! With a few toys and a little imagination, you humans can get your exercise fix at home!

What is your favorite home recovery or self-care practice? This one is easy, and all of you humans should add these two items to your daily agenda: 1) Make sure you get enough sleep! Worried that you haven’t slept enough? Make time for a nap. 2) Take time for daily mobility work – a couple of moves to try: downward-facing-dog and snake (lie on your back and “slither”/wriggle from side-to-side).

Any last thoughts for humans Working from Home? Appreciate the little things, like taking a nap in the sun, barking at the neighbors, or watching Mr. Squirrel and Marvin the Chipmunk try to get to the birdfeeder.
