Labrador Lesson for 9/29/22:

Dog Walk Essentials.

The Labs wanted to share the essentials for a safe, fun dog walk. They asked Ben to help out with the lesson…check out the video…or just read along for the essentials. The most essential element is an engaged human, who is focused on the dogs! After that, the labs suggest you include the following items: 1. A stylish collar (the labs like climbing rope). 2. A sturdy, colorful leash (again, climbing rope is great). 3. Snacks (depending on distance/duration). 4. Water (depending on temperature). 5. A First Aid Kit.

The Labs believe in making movement a lifestyle, so, whether you have 2 legs or 4, gather the essentials, get outside, and get moving.

FitLabPGH Lab Lessons 38:22 Don’t Worry About How You Look…Just Keep Moving

Labrador Lesson for 9/22/22:

Don’t worry about what you look like…just keep moving.

From Maggie the Black Lab: as Labradors, we love to move. At the moment, I’m a bit embarrassed because I have a skin infection on my head (probably a result of scratching due to allergies). My humans took me to the vet. I’m getting treatment, and I’ll be ok, but they had to shave a few spots on my head, so I’m not looking my best. But I’m not going to let that stop me from enjoying my walks in the park!

Whether you have 2 legs or 4, don’t worry about what you look like, or whether others might judge you, just move! Whether it’s a physical condition, or a lack of the latest gear, or just a fear of looking awkward, try not to worry about appearances…just move. Movement has physical and mental benefits for 2- and 4-legged movers!

Before the videos check out this week’s Lab Lessons- Create a Movement Backup Plan

The videos for week 37 of 2022 don’t be afraid to try, make movement fun & be a dear & don’t scare the deer!!

FitLabPGH Lab Lessons 37:22 Create a Movement Back-Up Plan

Labrador Lesson for 9/15/22:

Create a movement back-up plan.

As Labradors, we love to move. Like most movers, we have our favorite movement routine. For us, that includes hiking in our local county park. When our favorite location isn’t available, due to an event like the Covered Bridge Festival or due to icy trails, we have a movement back-up plan that allows us to keep moving.

Whether you have 2 legs or 4, we recommend creating a movement back-up plan that allows you to keep moving when life gets in the way of your preferred movement routine. Whether your favorite class is canceled or a work or family obligation prevents you from attending your movement activity of choice, if you have a back-up plan, you can still make movement part of your day. Keep a list of movement options, so that when your routine is disrupted, you can still find ways to just move.

FitLabPGH Lab Lessons 36:22 A Movement Buddy Makes Moving More Fun

Labrador Lesson for 9/8/22:

A movement buddy makes moving more fun.

We are energetic Labradors. We like to get outside and get moving most days of the week. What makes our movement sessions even MORE fun? Moving with each other and our humans. If you need a little extra motivation to get moving, try adding a 2- or 4-legged movement buddy to your routine.

Whether you have 2 legs or 4, including a movement buddy into your movement routine may motivate you to move more. Side note: when introducing a new movement buddy into your existing routine, be sure to move at the pace of the slowest mover so that all participants are able to enjoy the movement experience.
