If you make New Year’s Resolutions, resolve to make movement part of your lifestyle.

As Labradors, we don’t make New Year’s Resolutions…and we like to move every day, in almost any weather…but we understand that humans often wrap up a year by making resolutions for the next year. If you’re one of those humans, we suggest you resolve to make movement a lifestyle…for yourself and your 4-legged friends. Schedule time to move, in ways that you enjoy, on most days. The movement sessions don’t need to be “killer workouts”…just move!

Whether you have 2 legs or 4, making movement part of your lifestyle is good for body and mind. So if you’re looking for a New Year’s Resolution, resolve to Move More!

Yay! Winter is finally here!

As Labradors, we like to move every day, in almost any weather…but our favorite season is Winter! We don’t need to worry about overheating, and we can hike on trails with less concern about ticks. We understand that humans don’t always like to get outside in the rain or snow. But if you acquire the proper gear, and dress for the conditions, you can get outside and keep moving through the Winter. While you’re shopping for human cold weather gear, pick up some Musher’s Secret Paw Wax for your dogs, and perhaps a dog coat if your dog doesn’t love the cold like we do.

Whether you have 2 legs or 4, a movement session in the fresh air is good for body and mind. Remember, a tired dog is a happy dog. So get prepared for conditions, then get outside and get moving!

Be consistent with your movement practice.

If you want to make movement part of your lifestyle, you can’t wait for “perfect” conditions to move. As Labradors, we like to move every day, in almost any weather. We understand that humans don’t always like to get outside in the rain or snow. Plus, the Holiday Season is a busy time, often full of schedule disruptions…not good news for your pets, or your movement routine. While you may need to alter your movement plan due to weather or schedule constraints, you can usually still find a way to sneak some movement into your day.

Whether you have 2 legs or 4, find a way to move in some way on most days. Consistency is key to making movement part of your lifestyle.

Healthy Holiday Treats for Dogs.

The Holiday Season is a time of treats…as Labradors, we’re happy to eat anything that crosses our path, but we acknowledge that certain “human” foods are poisonous to dogs. So we’re reminding you to do your homework on which foods are unsafe for us (like chocolate and onions); please keep those foods out of our reach.

Want to give us a holiday treat? Healthy dog treats, like those from @portlandpetfood are always a great option. If you want to share human food with us, please check with your vet (or a reputable website), then experiment with dog-safe fruits and veggies. We love pumpkin, snap peas, green beans, blueberries, and bananas (to name a few).

Whether you have 2 legs or 4, we hope you have a happy holiday season that includes movement and healthy treats!

The Holiday Season is a busy time, often full of schedule disruptions…not good news for your pets, who like routines. Remember: your pets are not accoutrements, ready to be trotted out for photo ops. Your pets (especially your dogs), want to be around their humans. Remember to make them part of your holiday season.

Whether you have 2 legs or 4, make time for friends and family this holiday season. Make time to move, rest, AND Play.
